When John Lavranos and co first stumbled upon the type locality for this species in Somalia, they had to be careful where they walked so they didn’t crush any plants since there were such vast numbers growing close together. Very few trips have been made to their habitat since, but they are probably guarded by poor infrastructure and civil instability. The flowers of this plant have a putrid rotten odor meant to attract fly pollinators.
