Fockea edulis grows in the northern region of South Africa and Namibia where its pebble-like tuber blends in with the surrounding rocks. A local name for the plant is “hottentot bread” because the caudiciform is said to have a sweet, milky flavor. A summer grower that may stay evergreen with enough warmth through the winter.

Water: Water regularly in the spring/summer growing season.
Sun Exposure: Full sun. Southern Facing windows, or outside unobstructed.
Soil: 50% pumice + 50% regular potting mix or Stone Eaters Soil.
Temperature: Keep above 50° F.
Fertilize: During the spring/summer growing season, with Super Kabuto Fertilizer.
Dormancy: Fockea can lose all their leaves when going dormant.
