Fauna del Noroeste is a non-profit organization in Baja California that promotes research, conservation and education for less charismatic species (ie. frogs, lizards, rodents, snakes) but equally important to the ecosystem. We believe collaboration and connecting nature with the community is the best way to take care of our biodiversity and leave a lasting natural legacy for future generations.

The California Red-Legged Frog—the largest native frog in western North America—depends on healthy, well-preserved wetlands to survive and reproduce. Due to habitat loss, poor water management, exotic species and pollution, the species has disappeared from about 70% of its historical range. To support its recovery Fauna del Noroeste collaborates with multiple institutions on both sides of the border to provide suitable habitat and help reestablish populations in areas where the frog had vanished. Thanks to these restoration efforts, the species is back to Southern California and local populations in Baja California are starting to recover.
