An Homage to Opal:
Opal Whitley was a prodigy/ nature writer whose childhood diary, written between the ages of 4 and 6 (c. 1903), made her a minor literary celebrity in the state of Oregon. It depicts an animist world wherein spiders, pigs, and bats converse and pray with rivers, rocks, and trees.
The rear graphic on this tee shows a page from Opal’s original diary manuscript, while the image on front comes from an unpublished book of Opal’s nature lectures, poetry, and collage artworks called The Fairyland Around Us (c. 1918).
*You can get a copy of Opal’s diary from our friends @penguinrandomhouse under the title The Singing Creek Where the Willows Grow.
