We found this image three years ago donning the cover of a dusty out-of-print botanical tome in Tony Sato’s private library, in Japan. It depicts a painterly take on that semi-cryptic Argentine mountain dweller, Gymnocallycium spegazzinii. The ultimate painter’s muse!  Tony Sato is known for his interspecific hybrids of plants in the Astrophytum genus.
